For The Leaving comes as a beautiful merch pack - I handmade 100 numbered envelopes, filled them with special merch and the CD, and folded them into the tote bag.
    The pack contains
    - lyrics of the full EP, handwritten, on beautiful brown letter-paper
    - two bespoke goodbye-cards and an airmail envelope; goodbye cards are greeting cards I had printed with paintings by Lieke Romeijn - the back contain lyrics from the EP songs.
    - a CD of the full EP
    - The For The Leaving natural woven totebag with a design of Jeahjeah
    - I'll sign the inside of the envelope with a personal message.

I numbered all the envelopes from 1-100, you can inquire to get a specific number, though I can't guarantee their availability.

You took me to a bar downtown the night that I arrived You ordered wine and drank it all You talked about your life You’d had some busy weeks my dear, but now you were doing pretty well Oh, I felt the sword just hanging there - was waiting till it fell Oh I’ll understand when your feeling’s gone but don’t you dare tell me to smile when you leave me now We never really fought cause I’d get rather sad instead You’d turn the story round on me and then you’d make it up in bed And now you say you trust that I’ll survive this break-up too Well, you do believe in me my dear - at least that much is true Just go, go when your feeling’s gone But don’t you dare say I’ll survive when you leave me now Oh wouldn’t it be nice for me? you say - Won’t it finally be nice for me? If I’ll let go of the tings I thought - the things I hoped that one day we would be Those silly dreams you’d turn around for me Oh wouldn’t it feel nice and free? You never put up pictures where the both of us were in You never wondered where I went or asked me where I’d been And now you think you know what’s good for me You trust that I’ll be fine Well I don’t need your pity dear, not now, not down the line Just go, go when your feeling’s gone But don’t you dare say tell me to smile when you leave me now Don’t you dare say I’ll survive when you leave me now Don’t you dare pity me when you leave me now Wouldn’t it be nice for me? Won’t it finally be nice for me? If I’ll let go of the tings I thought - the things I hoped that one day we would be Those silly dreams you’d turn around for me Oh wouldn’t it feel nice and free

We go out to the bar tonight Leather jackets and tighter dresses than the night before The windows damp with the noise inside Pretty people with smokes in their hands spilling out the door The boys with the beers in their hands Glance when we pass and our friend says she's heard this band before Struggling through bodies that struggle to pass A phone in one hand in the other a glass to pour – pour us some more! We're looking for looking for someone to see us right to hold tight or to be more than a number that they call on lonely nights when everybody else is off and out We never know what the night might bring Our elegant dancing, we're being held tight by our skinny jeans We come here to not miss a thing while hundreds of pictures of prettier honeys flash up on our screens We drink till we forget our shame staring in glasses with heavier lashes as the night goes on we drink till we forget our name just like the guy who is luring us home with his sweet “come on...” We're looking for looking for someone to see us right to hold tight searching for searching in our hands a life-line long to hold on or to be more than a number that they call on lonely nights when everybody else is off and out

Getting tired of knocking at your door if you're not gonna open up if you're not gonna open up Don't want to peer through windows anymore if you're not gonna open up if you're not gonna open up The blackbirds they have left for winter They felt it time to flee Whatever was, whatever be I'm tired making a fool of me This is the end Goodbye lover Goodbye lover Goodbye lover Goodbye, my best friend It's getting cold waiting in the yard hoping that you'll come out hoping that you'll come out Oh I tried but you kept the backdoor barred If only you'd come out if only you'd come out The trees have shed their summer dresses They needed to feel free Whatever was, whatever be I'm tired making a fool of me This is the end Goodbye lover Goodbye lover Goodbye lover Goodbye, my best friend Spent too long waiting for your touch waiting to give it all wanting to give it all and I could live on not so very much If you'd let me gve it all allowed me to give it all As snow covers our tracks and traces I'll swallow my last plea Whatever was, whatever be I'm tired making a fool of me This is the end Goodbye lover Goodbye lover Goodbye lover Goodbye, my best friend

about

In love and in music, there’s two sides to everything - so as a counterpart to her first EP ‘For The Left Behind’, Lewin is now releasing ‘For The Leaving’.

Lewin had an album full of goodbye-songs that, for a while, were too painful to release.
She had recorded them with her love at the time, but as soon as the mixes were done, they broke up. Afterwards, Lewin could hear how she had unknowingly predicted their coming break-up in all her lyrics. Now, she is releasing these vulnerable songs in three steps.

The four songs on ‘For The Left Behind’ stem from the early days of their time together - a growing romance, but a feeling of unease throughout - Lewin feels she will be left behind, and sings to brace herself for when it happens. ‘For The Left Behind’ was released in September 2019.

‘For The Leaving’ the upcoming EP, is the other side of the coin; these four tracks were written slightly later, and signify a shift in perspective. We hear someone contemplating leaving a relationship that feels like its outlived its time, a love that she has ‘made work’ but does not work on its own. Rather than letting things happen, like she did in ‘For The Left Behind’, she seems to embrace a more active perspective, where she will be the one to leave.

about

Lewin Amsterdam, Netherlands

LEWIN: the fresh musical leaf that has been turned by songwriter and musician Jara Holdert.

Lewin's voice "might remind you a bit of Joni Mitchell in the upper registers, while her musical temperament feels closer to the bardic stylings of Laura Marling. Lewin's sound is a refreshing mix of emotional authenticity and beautiful folk-pop songcraft.” (chillfiltr)
